Description
This is a necessary tool when embroidering with gold and silver bullion. The thin, highly polished gold-plated steel tool is used as a stiletto, to control the bending of coiled metallic thread and as a laying tool for goldwork and silk thread embroidery.
There are several names for the mellor, mellore or melor. Because the tool is made of a soft smooth metal and not abrasive, its smooth rounded edges are less likely to damage the metal thread which makes the perfect tool for metal thread embroidery. Use the narrow end as a stiletto to widen a hole in your main fabric and the round end to ease metal threads into position.
